I tried to find a way to drive in, but from Gila Bend to where I parked, I did not see any way to drive across the railroad tracks. There may be a shorter route but that may involve driving 15-20 miles of dirt road, which I wasn't interested in doing.

Starting off, you will park in a pull off area South of Maricopa road. From here you'll walk South crossing the railroad tracks. I was surprised at how few cactus I saw. The brush is mostly creosote, palo verde, ocotillo, and a few saguaros. Basically you will want to hike South and a little bit West toward the canyon right in front of the high peak. The hike across this desert area is easy. There were about 5-6 washes to cross, which were all quite easy. Only a few of the washes were deep and the rest were not. As you get close to the canyon, you will see a lot of huge boulders. I climbed through the boulder area, which was enjoyable and a bit challenging. You can go around most of the boulders. I stayed in the canyon for a while and then when it got too messy, I got up on the left side of the canyon and climbed up and around the boulders. Seems like there's no good way to avoid boulders on this hike. There were significant boulder sections for me on the way up and the way down, even thought I chose a different route going down. Also, to get to the peak, you will need to climb up a 100-200 foot section of large boulders. I enjoyed the climb and exploring the canyon also.

At the top I found a registry which I signed. The most recent log entry was Paul C from Sept 2020, so I was the next person here 3 yrs and 3 months later. This peak is so remote, it would be hard to imagine a lot of summits since 2020.

On the hike down, I crossed the canyon and followed a route that was further West. I ended up at a saddle area and decided to continue taking a different side canyon which linked up with the main canyon. I'm not sure if this saved any time, but it was a more enjoyable route doing down as compared to up. When I got out of the canyon, I just headed North across the desert and ran into the same East-West road that I followed on the way in. From here, it was only a short walk East to get to a break in the barbed wire fence which I could travel North to my parking area.

Stats:
-------
distance = 6.71 miles roundtrip
AEG = 1,325 feet
Strava moving time = 3 hrs 14 mins
