Did this hike with three ladies from Nairobi. One kept pace with me, one was only able reach the top but unable to complete the loop. The other lady was able to complete the loop but struggled. The lady who waited for us to complete the loop saw a green colored snake cross the trail.

It was a slower than usual hike, but I enjoyed it and saw two new bird species. Giraffes greeted us in the beginning and zebras watched us leave the park.

Hiked Longonot again. Part of the trail was closed due to a cape buffalo attack. No one was on the trail when I started. I saw a few people coming up during my descend. I went counterclockwise, which they sometimes refer to as anti-clockwise.

No giraffes on this hike. I went early to avoid the rain. It downpoured hard on my return ride by to Nairobi. I might hike this on Wednesday with 3 locals, but I'm not sure yet. I also saw a snake track but no snakes. I'm just as disappointed as you all are for not seeing a snake on this hike yet.

Another hike up Longonot. I just arrived Sunday night and rested on Monday. There was a large crowd of students hiking up Longonot as well, but I was early and only passed them on the way down.

No giraffes today. I'm heading to Masaii Mara on Thursday. I was a little slower on my time this hike. I was sick all last week and could not get in a decent exercise session because of it. Plus, the travel here wears me out.

3rd time up Mount Longonot. I got an earlier start than my previous trips. I completed the loop this time. My next hike in Kenya will be Elephant Hill or Mt Kenya.

I got up the mountain in 48 minutes. The loop around the craters was about an hour and 45 minutes, roughly. It was extremely crowded at the base of the mountain because a lot of businesses joined together to have their employees hike the trail together. There were also school buses that had kids join the groups, although, I didn't see any kids on the trail.

The hike up was not crowded at all. I think I was the first one up the mountain. The rim was not crowded either, but the hike down was getting crowded. It wasn't too much trouble though.

The hike around the rim was challenging. It's definitely a 4.5 to 5 difficulty rating. The highest point was very steep, and it got easier after that with some small hills along the rim.

Not much wildlife on this hike. I think the crowds scared them away. I was a cape buffalo, an eland, and 3 giraffes. The giraffes were further away this trip.

2nd time up...

Mount Longonot is in Kenya near Lake Naivasha. It's steep and similar to Thompson Peak in difficult and elevation gain, but shorter and with giraffes.

It rained the day before, so I was able to grip the trail more and was not slipping on the way down as much as I did the first descend. I reached the top around 50 minutes and took my time at the top. Being a lowlander, I was stronger on this hike because I accumulated to the altitude. I saw fewer animals on this hike compared to my last hike.

The scenery was unique with some cacti-like plants and thorn bushes that fed the giraffes. Elands and zebras are also common along with reedbucks and thompson gazelles. I declined to hike around the crate (Longonot was a volcano). My guide said that it take 3 hours to hike the rim, but I think I can hike it in 2 or 2.5 hours.

I did part of the rim and opted to not do the entire rim because I was going to the lake afterwards and needed to return to Nairobi to sign up for a Masai Mara trip. I hope to do this again before I leave Kenya.
