Last hike of the day involved a tram ride to the top of Sandia Mountain. We'd made reservations for the 1-3pm timeframe but did not get off until 1:30ish. It's about a 15-minute ride to the top and up to 30 degrees cooler. When we got to the top, we were lucky enough to be deemed the last tram up for the day because of dangerously high winds. It took them a bit of time to get the tram docked up top because of swaying.

I had plans for a few decent hikes up top. I told them I was going to do a hike and they said to stay close enough so I could hear announcements for returning shuttles getting people off the mountain.

I have good hearing and deemed I'd be able to hear the announcements from 2 miles away in 50-60 mph winds. Off I went. I did cut my plans short and only hiked to Kiwanis Cabin. There were patches of snow along the way, but I only postholed a few times. [Link to YouTube video: [ youtube video ] ]

The cabin was a treat to see and views of the city below were very nice. I did not get too close to the edge. [Link to YouTube video: [ youtube video ] ]

The hike back was uneventful and I arrived in plenty of time. By this time, they were shuttling employees from the restaurant down also since they'd closed it.

It was taking longer for the trams to come back up because they had to fill the tram with 3000 lbs of water ballast to send them back up empty. Once they got to the top, they'd have to drain the water before boarding the 20-22 people. I'd really like to get up here to do some more hiking.
