The lake is slightly higher than it was a couple weeks ago.

I saw no wildlife other than the ubiquitous coots in the lake. There were no people there, either.

Cool breezy day, with some pretty clouds coming in. Snow still remains on the higher hills.

Instead of hiking the short loop, I took off from it and went to the top of Hill 7042. I saw no wildlife today, just some prairie dog holes. Well, okay, I saw coots in the lake and a raven on a pole. There are no cattle in these fields. It is still incredibly dry.

I don't have much time for hiking these days, but it is a lot more interesting to stray from the beaten path, so I will try to keep doing that a bit, even if very close to town.

Now I see the hill has a little x on the map with the elevation. I wonder if there's a marker up there? It's so flat on top, I guess I didn't find the "true summit."

The lake continues to be low. We haven't had enough runoff from snow.

This was a quick walk near home on a day when I felt exhausted, and didn't have much time. After only a mile of quick walking I felt a lot better.

In summer I've seen so many birds while walking on this trail. This time I saw only coots and ravens, who don't tend to leave here in the winter.

Stopped by Becker Lake to have a picnic and also walked along the Lakeside (?) trail on the west side of the lake. Lots of gnats, but the kids enjoyed watching the ducks and fishermen. We only walked about half the loop.
