Nice short hike with some good elevation towards the end & views of Sabino & Bear Canyons at the top! OP is spot on about walking a little further out after reaching the end of trail to get the best views. Saw maybe 10 small groups of people (including people already hanging out at the top when I got there). Not too busy for Sunday mid-day with perfect weather.
Low key stroll up Blackett's. This is the time of year where it is prime hiking weather. Low 50's to start and mid-60's at the finish, blue skies and no wind.
Another training run up and down -- quite the jump scare with a moderately sized Western Diamondback (not sure how the photo links to the profile lol) smack middle of the trail.
Pair of LS Mutants just arrived, so gave those a whirl: unfortunately used to more low-profile shoes so had a bit of a spill but nothing too crazy. Grip was fantastic on the steep slabs, and cushion was generally welcome for the downhill, but a lot less precise/responsive than the Bushidos. Started a little later than ideal & was a little worried about stepping on snakes in the dark so turned around at the flat before the final hill where the sign is. Only had to headlamp the last half-mile before the perpendicular road/bridge.
(pardon the noob report; trying to be more active here)
Not sure if I'm doing a slightly deviated route, but logged 5.9 for visitor center through to the "end of Blackett's" sign: jogged as much as possible but not quite fit enough to run all the uphill switchbacks yet. Sunny/warm day but headed down pretty much right at sunset, so pleasant then. As always, cruise down is more of a controlled fall. Love the LS Bushido IIs for this trail overall. Was pretty aggressive with hydration and went through 1.5L of water but probably not needed. Ate one Cliff Razz gel and a Larabar.
Water level before the Phoneline/Seven Falls trail was a little high, about 6 inches running over the road walkway. I walked through the water and my friend walked on the stones lining the walkway wall. We saw red spotted toads, a scorpion, and a centipede. Great trail conditions.
Late afternoon hike with Jim and Bryan to top of Blacketts Ridge. Chilly and windy on top. Owls were out on the way down, hooting away. Watched one on top of a saguaro survey its thorny kingdom.
