Much preferred the quietness, friendliness and privacy of this campground, and would recommend it to all who have tents. The walk itself is pretty nice. When I got to the point where I could see the road I bushwhacked back, following my GPS. Otherwise everything is pretty much as already described.

We met Howard at Spider Rock campground. He was playing Carlos Nakai in his little office. Although he didn't ask, we gave him some money and requested to use his trail. There is no way you can get lost on this trail. Every few feet there are redorange, spray painted arrows on rocks and trees. Most of the time you will be walking near the rim. If you get to close to the edge there are arrows and the words "turn around " or "dangerous". This is a very easy walk. About a mile in you can see ruins across the canyon. When we returned to the camp Howard was gone. We must have been lucky to see him. Someone wrote messages on the office walls asking where he was and he was never around. If you just feel like taking a stroll this is the hike for you. You don't need a permit, just ask Howard for permission. If you want a more strenuous hike, do the White House Ruins trail.
