| no partners | | crow peak was a nice find courtesy of sue's umpire friend, who grew up in spearfish
it's listed in my book, but the book doesn't give you a good idea of the coolest hikes
trailhead is out higgins gulch road, west of town
long switchbacks wrap around the mountain through mixed forest
some burn areas but not recent
gradual but steady grade and a short ridgeline leading to the summit
great views of spearfish, farmland to the west, black hills national forest elsewhere
we tried to take a spur trail over to beaver ridge on the way down, but the trail was faint and then we lost it completely where a few trees were down in a drainage
nice to get a new peak
camped at the spearfish koa - nice to take a shower afterwards, too
had pizza at the dough trader, which was almost as good as escalante outfitters pizza |
