This was a hike in central Montana to the summit of Mount Edith (elevation of 9,480 feet and prominence of 4,080 feet), the highpoint of the Big Belt Mountains. Mount Edith is also the highpoint of two Montana counties: Meagher County and Broadwater County.

I drove a rental RAV4 about 1/2 mile short of the Edith Lake TH. I could have made it all the way, but the road was real narrow through some woods and not knowing what was ahead I decided to stop and park at a turnaround. The extra mile RT of hiking was some easy road walking so I did not mind doing it.

I took the Edith Lake trail up to a saddle west of Mount Edith. The trail was in good shape and there were several switchbacks was facilitated the hike up a steep slope. There were great views at the saddle, including Edith Lake down below.

The off trail hike up to Mount Edith was open and not particularly steep. It was very, very windy from the saddle up to the summit. There were no trees up there, and the views were great.

I descended the same way that I came up.

This is an awesome area, and I am glad that I did this hike.
