Our first hike in Glacier National Park. Getting there requires a National Park Pass, a permit to enter the Going-to-the-Sun Road, and patience to find a parking spot.

The trailhead begins behind the Logan Pass Visitor Center. The "trail" begins as an asphalt surface for a few hundred yards, then becomes a raised boardwalk for approximately a half mile, then becomes a well-maintained dirt trail, which passes through a green meadow with views of peaks in the distance. It was a cloudy day and the peaks were all shrouded in fog.

There is a mild steady incline from the trailhead to approximately 1 mile in. At approximately 1.3 miles, there is another raised boardwalk with an overlook where Hidden Lake first comes into view. This boardwalk was full of people taking in the views.

Past the overlook, there were far fewer people. The trail is flat for a little while, then begins the gradual descent toward the northwest corner of the lake, which becomes steeper in the final quarter mile. On the way down, we saw our first marmot grazing about 6 feet off the trail, completely unconcerned about the people gawking at it and taking pictures.

At the lake shore, there is a trail that goes around this part of the lake. The lake is normally bright blue, but was more gray on this cloudy day. We stayed at the lake for a while, had some snacks, and watched the squirrels, which tried to get into our backpacks and ran around our feet, trying to get food. They stole some snacks from another person who had put down her baggie of food to take a picture. Eventually we went back up to the trailhead to get to our next destination.

Overall, this is an easy trail with beautiful views, a raised boardwalk for the first half mile, and a lot of people throughout the first mile, with few people beyond that, with an opportunity to see some unique wildlife.

Not so hidden is how I can best describe this picturesque lake in Glacier Natl Park. Too many people on this trail to really enjoy. Hiking beyond the lookout point reduces crowd size considerably.

Super crowded but still a great view at the overlook. The trail down to the lake was closed due to 3 active grizzlies that have been hanging around for the past several weeks. (Opening the trail to the lake could solve the crowd problems though.....). 2.8 miles in 1.25 hours with 500 feet of AEG.

This was another quick morning hike at one of the more popular trails in Glacier. The entire hike was in snow and the lake was frozen over, but that did not detract much for me.

I got an early start for this one considering its trailhead location at Logan's Pass, which opened just days before I went. There was a grizzly down at the lake, so nobody wanted to go further than the overlook, but I found another solo hiker that was willing to go down to the lake and we hiked down together and back. Micro spikes were perfect for this hike with the early morning hard snow. A lot of hikers were either skinning up the open slops or carrying skis and snowboards for their return trips.I started the hike to nearly nobody on the trails and finished to a full parking spot. The average wait time for a spot at Logan's pass is 12 minutes, so go early, or bring patience.

Highline Trail has fantastic views. Hidden lake had enough snow that we couldn't complete the hike. Also the end of the hike was closed due to bears.
