Got started right around dusk and probably didn't make it more than a mile until we had to switch to headlamps. Took our time making our way uphill in the dark. Very hard to gauge distance/elevation in the dark, but the lack of light made Mt. Hood and the surrounding wilderness look much more massive than I am used to.
A couple hours into the hike the moon peaked its way over the peak and illuminated the terrain. There is still a pretty thick smog over the area from all the forest fires, but it was still very enjoyable. Quite a few people camped out along the trail, probably saw 6 or 7 different camp sites which is always surprising on a weekday.
Hung out at McNeil point for a good half hour or so, just soaking in the views and enjoying the solitude. Very enjoyable experience. |
