| no partners | | We last did this hike over 4 years ago. I remembered it was being steep and rocky. For once I was right. A good fall workout on the trail. Some areas had a little water and/or ice on the trail but we did just fine with boots. Sunny with great views from the top. Near the radio tower you could make out Mt. Baker and Glacier Peak to the north across I-90. To the south snowy Mt. Rainier was out in full force. Saw a few parties making their way down as we headed up and on the way down we passed quite a few groups heading up. With the sunny weather looks like everybody had the same idea - go for a hike with views! |

| no partners | | What a difference from when we first did this hike back in March 2013. At that time there was a quite bit of snow that started a little before 2 miles in and continued all the way to the top. This year, it's February and no snow at all! There were some areas of water on the trail but overall the trail is in good shape. It's a rocky trail but the great views at the top make it worthwhile. Lots of people and dogs out on the trail today. Views of Mt. Rainier from the summit were awesome. A Seahawks "12" flag still adorns the radio tower at the top. |

| no partners | | Beautiful sunny day for a hike. Hit snow about 1.5 miles in. Microspikes did the job until the last mile or so. That's when it would have been nice to have snowshoes. Fortunately there both people and dogs ahead of us to help blaze the trail. Some clouds had rolled in by the time we reached the summit but still great views. Powdery snow without snowshoes made for a more difficult hike -- we definitely got a workout in. First hike for wife with over 3,000 feet of elevation gain. We'll sleep good tonight. |
