This was our first hike in Idaho and my first time in the Hemmingway Boulders Wilderness. Its hard to find a bad trail up here and this one did not disappoint, as expected. In fact, I would generally call it a superb hiking experience.

There is a great system of numbered dispersed camping near the trailhead, we stayed less than a mile from the trailhead and got a nice early start, despite sheltering in the car with the heat on for 30 minutes at the trailhead.

Immaculate trail the entire way, a little winter downfall, but nothing major and a bit of an obstacle created by a snow slide near the river. Stunning wooded sections of trail combined with some nice open stretches that offered some big views and a raging waterfall/slide as the main attraction. We continued on shortly after the fall and then returned the way we came. We did not see anyone on the trail until about one tenth of a mile from the trailhead. In fact, the entire area was pretty quiet, lots of open campsites and not many people out and about. A good time to hit this one, I am sure it gets busier later in the season.

Started out to hike to multiple waterfalls. The trailhead has been moved about 1/2 mile back to a new parking area. The online information isn’t totally correct. The road is is passable by cars without any problem.
Trail follows the river, with good canopy. It isn’t signed very well.

Who doesn’t love Big Wood!
