Written 5-10-2025. Part 3 of Day One in Page. We saw this trailhead while driving and thought we'd check it out. We had finished the Beehive Trail (New Wave), stopped at the Dam Bridge and then pulled into the Trailhead lot. There was only one other vehicle.

It was a lovely afternoon already and this would be a great end to our hiking/touring day. We started around 3PM with a nice 50 degree temp and 41% humidity. It's a nice lesiurely walk and gawk hike until you round the corner and head up the sandy hill to the Hanging Garden. There are views in all directions and we only saw two other folks on the trail in the distance. It definitely goes from an almost empty desert to a garden-like area, even for as dry as it has been.

We wandered around the area and checked out the alcove-like area. Jaelyn did her usual goat routine and climbed higher above. I did my usual zooming and wow, did I get some cool shots. But then, when I do the video, I end up spending hours trying to figure out where I was looking; especially since it's been five months. Anyway, I saw some really cool formations; surreal looking.

After finishing we completed our hike back to the trailhead. It's definitely a fun little hike that almost anyone can do I think. We completed our day with drinks and dinner at Grand Canyon Brewing.

This was one of two short hikes on the drive north for a five day/four night trip to northern Arizona and southern Utah. It's a very fast, short, and easy hike just off Highway 89A near the Glen Canyon Dam. The views to the west aren't great, with a lot of buildings and power lines, but looking east toward Lake Powell and the white cliffs and rock formations is more scenic.

There were a few other hikers on the short route to Hanging Gardens, and it was a nice oasis in an otherwise extremely dry area, with cool shade and some greenery where water seeps out of the rock. The trail itself isn't terribly exciting, but we saw a chuckwalla, and this was a nice spot to stretch our legs on a day with a lot of driving.

Belated post. Late afternoon hike with wife. Trail itself was easy to follow, though underwhelming. Surrounding scenery was very nice, though we did not stray too much from the trail. Hit the oasis and headed back. There were definitely options to do some exploring, but that wasn't in the family cards. Decent stream of people heading in and out.

I was in the area and this hike is in the Boots and Burgers book. Although I didn't have time for the burger I did want to check the hike off. The Garden was there but no visible water. Room to explore if your in the area.

Morning hike with Paul. Off-trail up onto the mesa, and down to the gardens, then off-trail to the butte to the west of trail. Lots of potholes with water after the recent rains, with the two biggest pools having tadpole shrimp swimming around in them.

Went with my co-worker Edmonia to the Ranger Guided Hike, led by none other than my roomate Paul. His theme for the hike was Bio-mimicry and how it relates to the desert. He did an excellent job and it was one beautiful evening.

The first leg of my wife and I's trip to Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument (GSENM), was a stop in Page to check out the Hanging Gardens. The trail starts at parking, so a roundtrip will be about .3 miles longer round trip, with a round trip distance closer to two miles than one. Not a big deal to most of us, but fair warning to the elderly or those who, like my wife, have bad feet. It was very warm, and incredibly windy, but she was a trooper. (My comment to her was that Page is a giant sand dune being slowly blown into Utah.) Truth be told, I was kind of disappointed by the "gardens", as it was only a small section of unflowering green, and hardly moist at all. Oh well, it was a good way to stretch the legs after the long drive from Phoenix. (Btw, 89T is a pretty darn nice road; hope they make it permanent.)

Unfortunately, no pictures, for reasons which will be explained in a future triplog. :cry: I do remember seeing a smiley face etched in some rock, not too far from the trailhead. My comment was "The ancient Hohokam were a happy people." Do me a favor, and laugh at the caption for my deceased photo ...
