| no partners | | | With a forecast calling for partly cloudy skies, we decided to try out riverside hike. The trailhead is just outside of Granite Falls. Looks like there has been work done recently as there is a nice trailhead sign and big gravel parking lot. Signage along the hike was good. The first part follows an old logging road and the remaining portion traverses above the South Fork Stillaguamish River, which had a milky green color to it during our hike. The old lime kiln is an interesting little piece of history. The trail continues along the river about another mile past the kiln where it ends at the river. You can see the remains of two concrete pillars that were used to hold the railroad bridge. There is also a small loop at the end of the trail that leads down to a wide, rocky beach which makes a nice lunch spot. Small 3 groups on our way in and then nobody else until we were done with lunch and on our way back. Must have seen about 10 groups on the return trip. |
