Hiked West Trail, East Trail, and Diddly Do in Round Mountain Park. This was a quick stop on the way back from snowboarding at Arizona Sunrise.

This series of trails appears to be maintained by the city (and possibly the mine) and is a pretty easy set of trails that is easily accessible from the town.

What makes these trails somewhat interesting is their immediate proximity to a lot of abandoned or depleted mining claims. These were mostly fenced off to discourage exploring dangerous places (from the graffiti and litter the local kids were not entirely discouraged from exploring) but it was cool to peek into some of the holes and pits from a distance at least.

Diddly Do also had some interesting rock formations, the local trail map had a different name for this spur trail. Otherwise it was pretty typical desert scenery. It would be a decent fitness hike for the locals

I like to leave a triplog after a hike, even a small inner city one; just to keep a record and say hello. Cloudy perfect Round Mountain Loop with one extraordinary event: Beautiful purple fields of Brompton Stock Flowers, the fragrance was an outdoor bucket list level experience.

I was in the Globe/Miami area. Round Mountain Park has a hand full of trails. I hit a few in the time I had to hike today.
Bulls Eye Rock
West Trail
East Trail
Box Canyon
Prospectors Canyon
Boulder Canyon 2/3rds of it
Hit the Flagged summit also!
Cool little trail system. Most easy to follow. Boulder Canyon being the exception. Great weather!

An absolute gem of an after work Mountain Wind down - 5 minutes from Globe city center!!!. Or, a convenient day hike with a friend is good too. The route is round, the rocks are round, you will feel well rounded after 3.75 miles and 1 hour 45 minutes. The park trails are immaculate, not one bottle, nor paper strewn; quite impressive Globe and respectful Globe area users, as the park is right there! The trail guide is right on.The trail is all 'rights' till you get to the first left Ridge trail. Then basically hike to the flag on top. There is some respectable grade, so exercise is available for all level of hiker. The trails include in ground plant guides of some Arizona desert flora I found highly informative.

Recovering from being sick, I needed a break from the house, so I headed to Globe. Had just enough time for a late afternoon hike after arriving in Globe, so I hit up Round Mountain Park. The park is looking great, and there are quite a few signs identifying native plants now. While talking with SkyIslander16 on the phone at the summit, my hand brushed a hornet or yellowjacket nest, and the little bastards nailed me a few times. SkyIslander got to hear me running and cursing as I fled the summit. After the hike, I picked up a ticket for the Globe Ghost Tour, and then headed to La Casita for dinner.

The Day after my Payson Trip, I had to make a Run out to San Carlos, so I planned a little Hike in Globe on the way back. I've been wanting to see this Park since several have done it and enjoyed it so much. I was limited on Time so I just did the West/East Loop with Side Trips to an Arch and the Flag at the Peak.

Decided to try some Duct Tape on the Foot, to see if that helped out the Trail Runners, but not sure if it helped or not, because I ended up stopping a lot and burning up some Camera Battery on all the Blooms out there. It certainly didn't make anything worse although the existing Blister heated up a couple of Times still....Between the Flowers, the Clouds, and approaching Storm, I stayed plenty busy. I spent more Time than I should have, but it was worth it.... :) No Brace again today, the Trail was very smooth and easy again, so the Ankle did fine... :)

And just FYI, if you haven't driven 60 between Gonzales Pass and the far end of Globe, what a Pain in the pumpkin. You may as well Double your Drive Time if you go that way. Road Construction for most of the Way including in the Town of Globe for a Water Main...Certainly would not want to do this Drive on a Weekend, although by late Afternoon on Friday, they had a least stopped and opened up the Lanes in a few Places. There is also a lot of Blasting going on, so you might want to call ahead if you make this Drive during the Week...Luckily, I did this on Friday, as the Day before, the Highway would have been completely closed for 4 Hours....

Definitely plan on hitting the Rest of this Park when I get around in that Area again.... :)

The Poppies in Claypool (between Miami and Globe) along Highway 60 are Peaked...Explosive Poppy Color through the whole Section. Lots of different Wildflowers going at the Round Mountain Park. I would say just a tad past Peak. The Flowers are starting to look stressed probably due to not enough Rain and a little early Heat....

Stop #3 on our day road trip.
We ended the hiking portion of the trip with a fun outer loop around the park.
A little early yet in the year to see the flowers or Bonker's hedgehogs, but that's ok, still a great hiking park to visit anytime and we shall return a little later this year for the good flora stuff ;)

A short drive down the Hwy for dinner at Apache Gold Casino and then on home to Safford ended the day.
:D

Well, didn't make it to Pinal Peak; opted for something a little closer instead. Couldn't find all my hiking gear so decided to take a long run instead. Stumbled on Round Mountain Park after leaving the local Gun Show at the Elk's Lodge. Nice little park! Who knew!? It's practically next door to the house...

I can see the various trails will provide ample variety so I won't get bored too quickly. There's also enough up-down so one gets a good workout. Have to pay close attention to the trails (unlike my old Poway/Vista runs); hate to break an ankle (or worse...) or step on a rattle snake... All in all, a nice place!

Drove to Globe today with family to meet family for a Christmas gift exchange. While the family spent the afternoon at Apache Gold casino, I broke away down the highway and spent a couple of hours hiking at Round Mountain Park. I am always jealous of this cool little hiking park that Globe has, I wish Safford would construct one just like it in the Pinaleno foothills! I completed the description loop + the Bull's Eye Loop under a clear blue sky with perfect temps before driving back to the casino to lose a little more money.

Seeing family, a great hike & the scenic snow capped mountain views on the drive back home all made for a very enjoyable day!

There was still some sunlight left on my way back from Safford so I stopped in Globe to do a late afternoon hike. Instead of doing the hike listed in the description, which I've done before, I did the East-West loop to the summit that's popular with locals. Then I explored some side trails that I missed the last time. One of them takes you to an area with some mini arches.

Way nicer than I was anticipating. Yes, it's an urban hike, but I really liked the juxtaposition of lush green vegetation with maroon (sometimes burgundy) boulders. It's an ecosystem you just won't see in the Valley. From atop Round Mountain you get good 360 views of Globe and the surrounding region so you can scope out your next hike. Actually, that's my recommendation for this one. Since it's so short, use it as an early morning warmup for something else in area. Or combine it with a trip to Tonto National Monument and a stop at one of Globe's better Mexican joints and it makes a nice daytrip for the family.

Grandparents needed their casino fix so I drove them to Apache gold, dropped them off and drove into Globe to do a quick hike around the park. This is such a cool hiking park! Started at noon in 100+ temps and completed the far outer loop along with a trip up to the summit & the bullseye loop. They have completed another trail since my last visit, but it just got way to hot to check it out on this trip. Saw an unbelievable number of Bonker's hedgehogs (none blooming) on the south side of the Boulder Canyon trail & a small fox running through the boulders on the last leg out. Very hot, but very enjoyable 1/2 day in Globe!

Just hiked/jogged/skipped this trail this afternoon and I liked it. When you get up to the flag you can view most of Globe and the surrounding mountains including the Pinals. I don't know if it's worth a 3 hour drive to hike it but if you happen to close by and wanna spend an hour or so doing a cool hike, this would be it.
