Did this hike last weekend and it was great (probably better in spring/summer but still a fun hike). close to prescott but feels like its far out of town once you are in the wilderness.

The trail Starts about 4 or so miles out the mingus mt. recreation turn off (on mingus to the right, across from the campgrounds), then make your 1st right after going up the big hill with the 180 degree bend (about a mile up the road).. Go down that road for about 3 miles and the trailhead is on the right (#110).

Very peace full and quiet trail..Starts uphill for about 1.5 miles (with some great views as you get closer to the top of the ridge) you gain quite a bit a feet, wouldn't even know what to guess though. Trail then splits (once at top of the canyon , ground levels out) and goes right or left (a sign points to where you have came from and then to the left, which is the wrong way but goes to killer lookout that you can sit and dangle you feet off the top of the canyon wall, pretty cool),.. I checked out the lookout, turned around and followed the correct path down some road which after about .5 miles branches off to the right back on the trail (marked again with #110) and descends into the canyon which was actually the most bland part of the trail being the winter season and all, felt sorta like being in a horror movie down there, the clouds came in , got dark. .. very little water and sad looking trees.fun stuff. I ate here and bushwhacked a while before turning around and going back the way I came.. there was an intersection with another trail that made a loop route back to the road, but I cant remember which trail it was.. oh well! I saw some fatty squirlls with big devil like ears also, I will post some pictures..

Also, anyone interested in a hiking partner, I have been doing this alone forever (1st post on here though :) ) and thought it may be fun to have some other people to go with..let me know!
