The fast moving clouds (from the extreme wind that day) kept changing the light and shadows as you passed through thick aspen groves (it was really dramatic as I was listening to Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings; it seemed like the light was changing with the music, ha ha). Less than a quarter mile from the FR418 junction, there was a large fallen tree (see picture), so I had to turn around. I'd never been on this road, but luckily a local (in an SUV!) told me to take FR151E to get to the northern leg of 151. I took his advice and I think my little Corolla was on the verge of exploding at least 3 or 4 times as I passed through the very rough 151E. It's passable by car, but only if you're crazy. If I had to do it all again, I would backtrack on the 151 all the way back to the 180.
Anyway, the aspens are peaking so get out there now!! It was extremely windy so I didn't really get the photos I wanted with my 300mm (plus 2X teleconverter). I stopped in Hart Prairie for about an hour to shoot from there. The area is beautiful in the fall. Tall grass and golden aspens.
