Absolutely gorgeous drive. The mountains there are absolutely beautiful. About 3 hours from Tucson to the trailhead.
We ran into snow on the road about 1/4 mile below the trailhead and needed our 4wd to get the rest of the way up. The trail was still partially snowed in, but we picked our way through. Beware, this winter was not kind to the trail. We spent about half our time breaking branches off the fallen trees laying across the trail so that we could get through. Probably atleast 20 fallen trees in the first 2 miles of the trail. We made it to Blue Jay Ridge, but lost the trail in the saddle. The description says the trail picks up again on the east side, but the snow was probably 14 inches deep on the east side, and we decided to turn back, as the trail traverses a very steep grade, and the snow made sliding very probable. We are going to return in a few weeks to finish the loop, after some more warm weather takes care of the snow.
Totally recomend this hike, it was well worth the drive even though we didn't complete the loop.

Great trip. Have done it twice now, once in January in snow the whole way up, and once now in March with a mostly clear trail. Incredible view, totally worth the walk.

Hiked in snow from the base to the top. Slow going on the way up, near skiing experience on the way back down.
Beautiful views, will return again in better weather.

We have hiked Jackass probably a half dozen times now. I grew up in Page, and this has been a local favorite for many years.
Great hike, gets to be a bit of a scramble over boulders near the bottom. Look for the spray painted arrows, they can save you a lot of trouble. Great to sit and relax by the Colorado river at the bottom.

Great summit. Don't stop when you get to the "top", the real views are off the back side, through the trees to the right, looking toward Picacho Pk. and Mt. Lemmon
