Now my favorite hike in Sedona. And a top 10 for all for all of AZ. Wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be on a Saturday. At least not after you pass the first plateau. Can't recommend this trail highly enough.

Great butt-kicker. Definitely the most challenging hike I've done anywhere around the valley. Surprisingly, trail above falls was not as crowded as we expected for a Sunday afternoon. Weather was perfect in the mid-70s. Hike/scramble/climb up to the Flat Iron was challenging, tiring and very rewarding. Almost as rewarding as the beer and burger that followed. California Poppies beginning to bloom down in the basin. On the hike down we heard some crazy, loud, repeating woodpecker-sheep-like sound echoing from the canyon below. Eventually located the source and found it to be a very small (about 2") toad in the small pool at the bottom of the large trickling water fall. Couldn't believe how loud and odd sounding that tiny little toad was.

We won a permit for a 3/11 put in. Got super lucky with a storm that gave us 3k+ at the put in and throughout the trip, but cleared up for sunny skies all 4 days of the trip.

Sorry no waterproof camera, so no pics of any rapids. But I promise they were awesome. Especially Black Rock and the huge left side hole @ Mescal.

Beaches & camps were huge, sandy and perfect at Rock Garden, Hess Canyon & Cherry Creek. Nice side hikes at Hess Canyon and Cherry Creek.

The rafting and scenery were phenomenal. This trip is an absolute must if you ever get the opportunity.

Lower Verde River kayak trip from Bartlett Dam to Box Bar RAP. River was at 258. Fun trip at 258--water was moving at a decent rate, a few flat sections with wind, but not too much work and water depth was good all the way to Needle Rock.

Along the river there's plenty of deep swimming holes, multiple 10'-18' cliff jumps and even a rope swing. Only recommendation is if you go during a weekend, take out at Needle Rock instead of BB. Between Needle Rock and BB you'll find nothing but shallow water, ORVs, drunk people and loud music.

Kayak trip from White Bridge to Beasley Flat. River was at 160. Made it all the way in the inflatables without having to get out & drag the boat. Wouldn't do it any lower, though. Fun, scenic trip if you're up for some exercise.
