Getting a really late start today we took the top off the Jeep and headed north without a real plan. Maybe Fossil Springs again, maybe West Fork of Oak Creek. We had all three kids with us and were just spending time together. We stopped in Verde Valley at Montezuma's Castle. On the way out we enjoyed some homemade Indian Fry Bread at the intersection back to I-17. We decided to head into Sedona and just find a trail. We stopped at the visitors center and they suggested Baldwin Trail and after paying our $5 off we went. It was a blast. We hopped on the rocks by the creek and ate our fill of blackberries.(Suffered the cuts and scratches to prove it but they were worth it) We also combined it with the Cathedral Trail and a section of the Templeton Trail. It was warm but almost all of the trail is in the trees. There were 20 or so other people that we saw but never felt as though it was crowded. We had plenty of space to ourselves. We heard at least 4 other languages being spoken which gave it an international flare.

My best friend (wife) and I hiked the Fossil Springs Trailhead. It was a beautiful overcast day and we had almost the entire area to ourselves. We got a late start after eating lunch in Pine. Note to self (stay away from Nifty-Fifty Diner) We also stopped at the Fossil Creek Creamery and received a tour by the owners who were very sweet. It was worth the stop. My wife also loved the fudge. I'm very appreciative of the couple who were backpacking out taking a few minutes and talking with us. Especially the nice lady who encouraged my wife to backpack and described it so nicely. We have been hiking locally for a couple of years on almost a daily basis at Thunderbird Park in Phoenix and decided to go and do a trail hike. I'm really glad we did. It was really a wonderful experience and my wife is ready to take the next step and do some backpacking. Our kids are older and I was kind of nervous that my time in the woods hiking and backpacking may have ended with the boys scout days but it looks like I have a new partner who really enjoys the experience too. I can't wait for our next outting.
