Wow! Just the drive in and up to the trailhead was spectacular. Almost from the gitgo there are amazing hoodoos and formations. We had a gorgeous day with temps in the low 60's and sunny skies with some great clouds. This was a photographer's paradise; I took hundreds of shots. The hike is not for the faint of heart; starting around 10:30am we were hoofing it to do the full 9.6 miles before sunset and were fully spent by the end. Heart of Rocks is truly the crown jewel of the trip with so many delightful formations and views in such a short span. I marvelled at the trail building as well; in so many areas there were Herculean efforts undertaken at one time to create these sturdy and well thought out trails. We all owe so much to those CCC volunteers!

Our Thanksgiving Day hike. Started at the Douglas Spring Trailhead along DS trail 1 mile to Carrillo. Walked 1 mile on Carillo to the Bajada Vista Trail which we travelled for .9 mi. then onto the Garwood for another mile to complete the circuit for about 4 miles total. Provided a great variety with level areas, canyon skirting, and peak ascents for wonderful vistas. For our only visit to the Saguaro NP it proved to be delightful and a good challenge.

A gray, chilly day which kept away the hoards. This was our first time to Sterling which was reported by many to be spectacular prior to the fire damage. We still found it to be a wonderful area with lots of interesting formations and vistas, providing a good challenge with the steep elevation of the trail. It is curious to see the forest healing post fire and then imagine what was prior and how the species progress in the evolution. There was snow and red blazing maples up in the saddle; literally the high point of the hike. Afterwards we walked downstream on the creek to get back to the car which was parked just south of the campsite. Another great Thursday!
