To get to Trailhead South of Peak From I-40 Exit 171: N to T w Rt. 66. L then R to go N on FR 74 about 2 miles. R on PAVED road N of Helibase. Go L on FR 75. N on FR 75 for about 2 miles. R on 9521 L. Continue up this road as far as you like. You can begin hiking N on road. You are less than two miles from peak, but the trick is to avoid going up a false peak. To avoid doing this continue on road to large wood pile. Turn left at this wood pile to hike up canyon to saddle, where you turn NW to make final ascent to peak. Return the way you came.

The Wentworth trail no longer exists, so these directions are out of date. To do a hike most closely related to this posting one should modify it as folows:

After going North on Wildhorse Trail to the "confusing intersection", i.e. where five trails converge:
Left (W) on the Bajada Vista trail.
Left (S) on Squeeze Pen Trail
Right (W) on trail at Sign indicating Loma Verde South.
NOTE: There is no sign for Pink Hill Trail here, although the map in newspaper available at Visitor Center labels this Pink Hill Trail. The sign says Pink Hill Lookout .1 continuing S. This dead ends at the Pink Hill Lookout in .1 mile, a scenic and worthy detour.
Continuing West you will come to Pink Hill Trail.
R (N) Shantz Trail back to Broadway Trailhead.

Lots of great cactuses on this route, and the view from Wildhorse Canyon back to the Santa Catalinas is very beautiful.
