What an incredible hike! We were lucky enough to have the entire trail to ourselves. We must have been the only ones to summit that day since we didn't run into a single person and it would've been too late to start by the time we returned. A storm the night before left the peak dusted with snow. There were quite a few deer around the park and they weren't bothered by us hikers at all.

I happened to do this hike on a day that there was a relay or race of some sort. My impression was that it was going to be confined to MMRP's Competitive track, but that wasn't the case. I was on the trail before any of the racers had started so there wasn't a problem with crowding, but markers for the race were already placed on the trail. Being unfamiliar with the trail, this caused me some confusion. I ended up following these arrows and was misled down what is typically a closed off service road that was apparently open for this event. I only realized my mistake after about a mile because I was heading East. It wasn't a bad experience or anything, but just not where I had planned to go. Can't wait to hit it up again to discover more of Pemberton.

Hike from the TH to the Thumb and then to lookout to check out the view. The trail was busy, but once I was past the Thumb the traffic lightened up and I found myself alone on the lookout. On the way back I decided to check out the Feldspar trail, which no one else seemed to be doing.

Saw a few cardinals, cactus wrens and other song birds, but not much more wildlife.
