Hiked this route in February - a perfect time. At 8.5 miles, this is a good distance hike and mostly flat.

I downloaded a circumference trail that was about 10.5 miles long. We followed about 1/2 of the route but decided to follow the horse trail along the creek instead. That cut off about 2 miles and was nice because it was along the creek.

We started at the Picketpost trailhead and headed south, past the side trail that heads to the Picketpost summit. We ran into some other hikers that missed that turn off.

The first 3.5 miles were on a well marked trail that was shared between hikers, horses and mountain bikers.

Took the turn-off to continue on the circumference trail. Ran into many horseback riders and basically followed their trail instead of the circumference trail I downloaded. I'm really happy we did that. Look for the turn off that crosses the river. It was shorter and the hike along the river was beautiful. Lots of water and shade. Telegraph canyon is worth seeing.

We lost the horse trail about 1/2 mile from the trailhead.

Found an apache tear (obsidian) along the river bank.
