May 2013 - 2 friends and I finally committed to the full through hike of woods canyon. Before entering we stayed on the rim after roobers roost and entered via the south branch of woods canyon, which will save you some time. If you stay with the canyon on your right you will eventually run into this "side canyon" which quickly enters woods. Much quicker than entering woods directly after roobers roost ( I've done both).
We were in the canyon are 9 am and made it out just after dark. The swims are super cold, we had good luck with floating our packs on a therma rest to keep them super dry.
The last half of the hike is super brutal - the boulders literally feel like they won't ever end.
Over all glad I did it. If i ever go back i will just do the upper portion down and back. But it's worth doing the through hike once. |
