At Garden Valley, you will find a mound of rocks, overgrown with grass and palo verde trees, that is actually a prehistoric stone house. It is said the house was estimated at three stories with a stone-paved court in the center. The entire area can be scoured for broken pottery shards (identified by worn red glaze on one side, black sand colored on the other). Nice to find and sets your imagination on fast track, but leave them there for other hikers to enjoy! Near the foundations of the house, if you look carefully, you will find three metates (grinding holes) in the rock floor. Plan to spend at least an hour in the valley, and enjoy a bit of history! |
