Heard about this trail from some friends. It is easy to get to, there is a short drive on a dirt road required. Also there is currently a $3.00 fee per hiker in effect. Took the left trail of the loop and started out. The elevation gain is the largest here but nothing that difficult. There are portions of the trail that are hiker only and a lot more vegetation encroaching the trail so I would recommend wearing long pants as I got a few scratches and such along the way. The scenery at this time of year was greener and without the saguaro you would think you were in another wetter state. Having the GPS route makes this easy as there are some spots that are not clearly marked. Overall a nice relatively easy hike.

One of my favorite hikes is Tom's Thumb. The landscape of massive boulders and great desert views never gets tiresome. Went a bit further past the Thumb and was fascinated with the changes in the trail. Lot more quartz and saguaro. This time of year the wildflowers were in full bloom and the weather is not yet sweltering. All in all a great hike.

Hiked the Peralta Trail to the Fremont Saddle this past Sunday. Note there is a lot of traffic after the highway 60 ends due to the Renaissance Festival so plan ahead. Lots of people on the trail but it is a beautiful hike, quite a lot greener and more shrubbery than other places we've been so far. The view of Weavers Needle is spectacular. This has got to be a must do hike for Arizona. Decided to return via the Cave trail. The cave trail follows the eastern ridge of the valley and is not very well marked. Parts of it are a bit steep and require the use of all fours to scramble down...at least the route that we took. Saw some mountain climbers on the route as well. The Cave Trail takes a lot longer than the Peralta Trail and was more taxing for my wife and I. She didn't even care about the cave by the time we got to it and said "just get me down off this dang mountain". Very little traffic on the Cave Trail and the views are amazing. If you want some extra adventure and challenge, I would recommend it.

Working my way through the popular hikes nearby and this was next on my list. I tend to prefer loop trails just because a there and back just seems redundant to me. Saturday's in February are probably not a good time to hit this trail. The parking lot was full and people were even being dropped off by towncars probably from hotels.

The trail is pretty flat, easy for bicyclists and joggers. Nice stroll but not very challenging. Heat of the day is probably the biggest obstacle.

This is a worthwhile hike. The beginning is not very interesting but once you are in the wash the rock formations are interesting and photo worthy. The trick is to make a sharp left turn at the American flag that someone planted near what might be an old mine though I couldn't find the shaft. My first time on this trail we didn't make the turn and missed the falls. The falls were better than I expected. Nothing massive but the water cools the area down and it is a little oasis especially on a hot day.
