At the time of writing, the bridge is currently out, ergo right now is a good time if you would like to just post up right by the water's edge. Take the short trip down from the south entrance and just enjoy the blissful surroundings with little-to-no other visitors. We spend about an hour at the water's edge listening to music (quietly) with our dog. Feel free to wave at the few people across the water that took the opposite entrance!

Girlfriend and I did it. It's a very nice, easy-to-run trail (for us being experience trail runners), with possible horse sightings. We saw no snakes during this time of year, but expect to see some small rodent animals--bunnies, chipmunks, squirrels--so keep your dog on a leash if he/she bolts after them.
We walked the trail first and ran our way back. Be careful running because with the river beds you'll go through it's not too difficult to roll an ankle if you get ahead of yourself. Also, going at sunrise or sunset is incredibly beautiful.
Happy hiking! :D
