There was a nice amount of flow but nothing scary, we were not really fighting the current. The water is a tad chilly in the fall so we wore 2mm shorty wetsuits but it is not terrible, especially after the sun came out. You could probably get away with not wearing them if you started a couple hours later than we did after the sun came into the canyon but it would be cold.
The chockstone at the first drop seemed a little sketchy to me since I'm over 200 lbs so we backed it up, however there may be better anchor options underwater. As mentioned in previous trip reports the pothole after the 2nd rap is filled in with sand and pebbles. The last rappel has an ugly choke point to snag a rope so we went down to a ledge below it and finished the rappel off an anchor on the ledge.
It's a beautiful canyon filled to the brim with frogs, butterflies and some of the best waterfalls I've seen in the Catalinas but also a long day. |
