| no partners | | Went up the Loy Canyon trail to just north of the saddle, then dropped into the upper reaches of Secret Canyon and followed this fine stretch of little-visited wilderness all the way down to the regular Secret Canyon trailhead. While most of the pools in the lower reaches of Secret are growing stagnant, I was surprised by the amount of gently flowing water that still remains in much of the upper section, with frequent wading and several brisk, clean swims. No rappels but there are several downclimbs of up to about 20', but most of them could be bypassed or safely descended using large sloping logs. Still tons of lupine around, and the greenery is amazing.
Distance is about 5 miles up Loy and into Secret, 4.5 miles off-trail down Secret to where the trail picks up and then another 4.5 miles to the trailhead. You'll then need to shuttle back over to the Loy trailhead, about 13 miles. |
