Potato Lake is a seasonal lake in the Rim Country. Nice view of aspens along the shore turning fall colors. Did it with some friends (in addition to Sarah).

This was a great night-time hike I did with my wife, Ippi. The full moon was so bright, it was almost like hiking in the daytime. Loved it!

This was a great hike! My first exclusively nighttime hike. I've come back to trailheads in the dark before (three or four times [and only once with a flashlight]), but this was the first time I intentionally did a hike after it had become dark. Actually, the light of the half-moon was sufficient for 90+% of the hike--only a few times did I have to fire-up my old school, 4D cell Maglite. Definitely will do more night hiking!

This was a great hike to do on one's wedding anniversary: 21 years! Yay! The temp was a nice 80?F, the sky was clear, the air was crisp.

This was a very good hike: the weather was clear, a bit warm, but dry. It really is true what folks say about the "dry heat." Saw a number of lizards (of course), but also an eagle looking for an appropriate meal. This hike was of longer distance and greater AEG than nominal because I was collecting track data. Time to hike is net of major stops.

I did part of the Sunrise Trail, starting at the Sunrise Trailhead. When doing the trail going westbound to the Lost Dog Wash Trailhead, the beginning is a bit more challenging when compared to doing it eastbound. It was 107?F and I hadn't hiked since doing the Sunrise Trail this past Sunday eastbound, so I had to turn around about 30' from the junction with the eastern terminator of the Sunrise Peak Spur (got to 33.61023, -111.78009). Bummer. Next time ...

This was a very good hike. It was a toasty day, but not really "hot." Water was definitely something to be taken, but I didn't drink as much water per mile as I have on other hikes. The track data for this hike forms the basis for the track called "Sunrise Trail MSP". Note that the summit of Sunrise Peak is accessible, but it wasn't something I did this time.

I went to Pinnacle Peak to take a picture of Virgin's Breast from the Grandview area (where I first noticed the summit and lusted after it). My unusual distance and AEG are the result of two trips to the highest point on the trail from the Grandview area, going back to the trailhead, and then making it 0.4 mile back up the trail a second time before being herded back to the trailhead because the park was closing. I nice, relatively quick hike.

I went back to the mountain that kicked my pumpkin last weekend with my friend, Daniel, and we kicked its pumpkin. It kicked back, though, and almost broke my knee. The attached a video of a 360? view around the summit (33.769444, -111.854897), officially 3,061 feet, to my post regarding this hike on Facebook. At 3,061 feet, that's 357 feet higher than Camelback Mountain, but (to be fair) the ascent phase of that hike starts at 2,672 feet, just 32 feet shy of Camelback's summit elevation of 2,704 feet. However, with an average 25% grade going up and only loose, sandy mountainside, it's not a typical walk in the park.

Did much of the 136 Street Spur today in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, but then ran out of light. The trace on http://www.mcdowellsonoran.org/ is inaccurate in a frustrating way about 0.8 mile in (roughly 33.602834, -111.785714). More info to come.

I tried to replicate Al_HikesAZ North Mountain route http://hikearizona.com/location_g.php?GPS=238, but got off track. It was getting dark and I was trapped in the Mount Central Place subdivision, so I extricated myself and returned to the trailhead. I have the right GPS track now, so I'll go back soon.

This was my first attempt a summitting a mountain I'm personally calling "Virgin's Breast." It was a harrowing experience, actually, but that's a story for another time. I'm going back, though, to kick its pumpkin. One good thing to come out of that experience is my piece on heat illness in the "Articles" area (http://hikearizona.com/article.php?ID=33).

Today was a great day to hike! I did the route clockwise and found out that (when I was doing it counterclockwise) I was about to descend from the summit down a false trail (that could have ended badly; especially since that way looked very, very challenging). It rained on me as I was coming down to the Maricopa ramada and doing a supplemental trek continuing down the trail to the Quechan ramada and back to Maricopa.

This was a good hike to the absolute highest point of North Mountain (2090 feet [by my 60CSx] at 33.58559, -112.07231 on the south side of the radio transmitter site). I took the north route. After the summit, I hit some of the sights (including the memorial bench). I'll have to go up the south route next time. As prep for the southern route hike, I went down to the Quechan Ramada and hoofed it up to the first ridge to see some of what's what on southern side. That side trip upped the total distance and AEG.
