We hit the trail just after 6:20am. Heading in I was concerned with some health issues over the past two months. The trees are budding and mainly one variety of white wildflowers are busting out in areas. Bob wanted to scour the north slope about 300-400 feet below the ridge so we set out maybe twenty yards apart. Of course the terrain determines your true path to an extent so we crossed paths at times. Some of the areas you have a ground sight path with a tenth of a mile radius and of course some areas it's down to ten feet.

The ground is surprisingly dry. Only a little snow remains in the shade, nothing of concern. We came to a rock slide area and pondered the ridge looking cliff ahead. Bob went to check it out. Wally and I waited maybe twenty minutes until we decided we better move on. In the shade I was getting pretty cold. We headed up the rock slide to attain the ridge in hopes of catching Bob further over. Somewhere on this rock slide or a quarter mile past it on the ridge I lost my GPS. It is/was a silver vista in a black case if anyone stumbles upon it. Once on the ridge we went from cold to frying in two and two as Chuck would say.

It didn't take long to find Bob down the ridge on a small peak honing the after burner debris on his jet pack. Since after a half dozen times in the area Wally nor I had been to Sheep Mtn proper we headed over. Bob dropped a few hundred feet down into the forest for a mean quarter mile scour whereas we took the ridge.

After we passed the probable area for my GPS... Wally and I had some ridiculous thoughts of following the ridge. Bob set our priorities straight and we headed down into the abyss just a hundred feet off the ridge. It got a little sketchy pretty quick. Wally got smart and headed up to the ridge. Bob snapped his fingers and his jet pack drifted him around a cliff. I opted to climb it instead. It was about seventy feet. I knew I was committed and it probably wasn't wise yet I knew Wally was within in yelling, scratch, screaming distance. Kind of like a slope that Liz wanted no part with on the Mother Lode. It all worked out. In hindsight this was the least treacherous adventures in the area for myself. Bob got more of a workout yet agreed it was nothing compared to the Liz adventure last year. My back held up nicely. Unfortunately no signs of gpsjoe. Anyone interested in scouring the area should get out before the end of April. While this area takes on the cold snap and snow of the high country in the winter it gets near valley temps May through middle October. Morning gnats were out at the trailhead but didn't bother us after a couple minutes into the hike.
