Freight Wagon Trail - Saguaro NP is a 1.3 mile one way hike with 76 feet accumulated elevation gain. Located 12 miles east of Tucson Arizona. The trailhead is car accessible. February and January are the best months to enjoy this hike.


2012 Notice! This trail has been decommissioned.


Overview: Connector trail that runs between Wild Horse and Carrillo trails. About 0.3mi off Wild Horse via Shantz Trailhead.

I-10 SE out of Tucson exit 267 for Valencia Rd. Turn left at E Valencia Rd follow 3.1 mi. Turn left at S Kolb Rd follow 1.6 mi. Turn right at E Irvington R follow 4.0 mi. Turn left at S Houghton Rd follow 1.0 mi. Turn right at E Escalante Rd follow 2.0 mi. Turn left at S Old Spanish Trail follow 0.3 mi. Turn right at S Cactus Forest Dr follow 2.3 mi to Shantz Trailhead.

From PHX (I-10 & AZ-51) 135 mi - about 2 hours 19 mins
From TUC (Jct 1-10 & Grant) 25.2 mi - about 44 mins
From FLG (Jct I-17 & I-40) 278 mi - about 4 hours 25 mins
