Went to this TH to check the trail as lot of the trail had been in water since our last storm. Water is very very slowly receding. I photographed 2 new birds. But sadly conservancy didn't accept them as they don't see this water tank as part of the preserve even though the trail is part of the conservancy. As it got warmer, saw tons of butterflies by the abandoned cement road section.

Brief hike before class on human history of Mcdowells. Met 2 women who also like to be stewards and are on wait list for this month :y: . Always welcome new people to stewardship hood :D
Wildflowers are starting. Hopefully will see butterflies soon although I don't see them at this TH.

Due to time constraints, went to this TH today. Freezing cold gave me some beautiful shots of frost. I think I photographed a western meadowlark. If I did, it is my first :y:
Seeing lot of dogs off leash here :o

Most Annoying Hike Ever
This was seriously the most annoying "hike" I've experienced in ages. To knock off some ATC segments, I had to take the Quartz up to West World and connect to Taliesin. All of these, of course, feature nothing more than golf cart paths and people's backyards.

To top it off, my dog Trixie and I encountered a hiker who had a large vicious dog that she was almost unable to control. As we crossed paths, her dog lunged at Trixie while snarling and the hiker had to all but tackle her to keep her from getting away. As a first-time dog owner, I now understand what people mean when they talk about what they would do if someone attacked their beloved little family member. If that dog had gotten away and come at us, I would have attempted to kill it unless it backed off. How exactly, I'm not sure. Maybe it's time to start packing.

Although I detest this footpath (I refuse to call it a trail), it will forever have a place in my life story because it's the first ever hike I took my new dog Trixie on. I chose it to knock off a random segment needed for the MSP ATC.

I learned many things from this experience. That Trix Mix (as my daughter calls her) loves hiking. That she has rocket propellers or something that shoot her into the air when she sees a lizard. That she thinks she can catch a quail. That she has not yet learned that leaping blindly into a desert bush is often a bad idea. That I should probably get a stronger leash.

Here's to thousands of miles ahead of us, Trix Mix.

Neighborhood walk-DC ranch
I think DC ranch has done wonderful job of planting wildflowers and have admired them every spring as I drive through the area regularly. Decided to stop by and take pictures today. They also have a beautiful pond with nice enclosures for wildlife too. Nice area to go back to if I want to play with Macro lens. Saw lot of milkweed there. Nice area to visit when monarchs migrate but I don't know when that would be.
I also stopped at west world TH for few minutes so the early photos are from there.

Decided to do the entire WW trail just once. Started at the TH and went all the way to cactus and back. The trail is as boring as described in previous trip logs. Highlight was Cooper's hawk. It was at my eye level and I did not even see it until it made sounds :o overcast day and hardly anyone on the trail.

Today is a rest day for me. Decided to walk from WW TH to Horizon park which is on the other side of canal.
Highlight is watching Peregrine falcon eating breakfast. My very first falcon. :y:
I think I will be vegetarian for few days :o

After dropping my daughter off at school, decided to go to this TH as it is one minute drive from her school. Today's theme is flocks.
First I saw a flock of lesser finches. Then a flock of mallards. Then out of nowhere came rosy faced lovebirds. Then a flock of great tailed grackles came and chased them away.
Great weather and a great hike. Not as many wildflowers or butterflies here.
