unique geological formation by The_Eagle ![]() The Suzys Cave Trail on Isle Royale National Park is a short and interesting hike. Most hikers use this trail as a connector for a short loop from the Visitor Center, combining it with the Rock Harbor and Tobin Harbor Trails.
The Suzys Cave Trail is considered moderately difficult. It can be steep and rocky, so be ready for a bit of a challenge, especially on uneven or slippery sections. However, the trail is short, only 0.3 miles in length.
There are several stories about how the cave got its name: 1) It was named after a local woman who used to visit the cave for its cool shelter during the hot summer months. 2) It was named after a Native American woman named Suzy who lived on Isle Royale. According to local legend, Suzy used the cave as a temporary shelter or a place to escape harsh weather while living on the island. 3) A newlywed spent a winter in the cave when her husband could not return before bad weather hit. When they found her, she was bald from using her hair all winter to make rabbit snares (From @FOTG). In the early 20th century, the cave was a popular spot for tourists and explorers on the island. This trail is perfect for those who love discovering hidden spots and learning about the island. Check out the Official Route and Triplog.
