A Steep Road by NitroTheWolf ![]() Overview
Small mountain located near the border of the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests. Not special in any way, except it is a bit steep and is good if you want a short workout. Road to trailhead is passable to most cars, though it is closed during winter. History Road to the top is currently closed and the Forest Service wants the road to disappear. However, fresh tire tracks and litter along the road means people keep driving up so it might be a long, long time before the road finally disappears.
From the Road Ends sign you follow the closed road up. It starts at a gentle slope for 0.2 miles before becoming increasingly steep as you ascend. The road ends near the top near a campfire ring and firewood. Continue past the saddle for about 700' and you will be at the top. Peaks such as Humphreys Mountain, Kendrick Peak, and Wild Bill Hill can be seen from the top. Return the way you came and try not to slip while descending the road. Water Sources Arkansas Tank is the closest available water source. Camping Dispersed camping is available along many of the forest roads in the area. Check out the Official Route.
