I have run into several small groups of them in thunderbird park in glendale.

They seemed to be easily spooked and never presented a threat.

Your S-10 should be fine... The only real obstacle to the trailhead is some soft sandy spots on a bumpy dirt road. As long as you keep moving, you should be fine.

Glad to see all the interest... We are looking at a Saturday - probably in October. a 4x4 or high clearance vehicle is needed to get to the trail head. There is a gas station/store out in estrella ranch that serves as a meeting place and parking for non-worthy vehicles. I suggest everyone check both...

I got lucky today as i got on Bell rd from the 51. Passed a 7-11 that was pumping at $1.99. about a 10 minute wait. So im good now for a few more days.
