Re: Sore Toes During Hiking

I had the same problem, but it happened over a year since I had bought and worn my Merrells. I have since bought new inserts (Superfeet Orange) and did the Callaway Trl down to Clear Creek and had no problems after the new inserts.

Re: South Kaibab Trail

Thanks! Water is a given as is the salty snacks, just wasn't sure of the amount. Was thinking of Peanut Butter sandwiches (Kroger makes a good natural PB) for a "filler". And a big YES on the camera. It's my 17th trip to the canyon and my first hike into it (always playing tour guide with family), a...

Re: South Kaibab Trail

I will be hiking this for the first time (actually my first Canyon hike). My sister and I will be going about to the 3 miles mark. She's not acclimated to the altitude like I am. She's in good shape as she's a runner, me I just hike when I can! Anyway, what can we expect on this hike? How much water...

I'm still here! Trying to get some personel issues out of the way. When I get everything done and caught up, I'll be ready for some hiking!

About 2 miles outside of Crown King (going back towards Cleator) is a forest trail, 525 I think. There wasn't a sign there when I went up last week, but I have seen it before. There is a pull off on the left on the way up at about the 24 mile mark(?). Also don't forget Crown Kings general store, exc...

Wow! That's some hike! You might also try the Forest Service on South Cortez St. I think it's in the 400 block of that street.

Re: New to AZ, looking for a hike

Welcome to Arizona! We just moved here from FL 8 months ago, and have a hiking smorgesborg out here compared to the SW coast of FL. Before I moved here I bought a book from Arizona Highways(excellent magazine in case you didn't know) called "Urban Trails,Easy Paths & Overnight Treks", that not only ...

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I go to wally world on the weekend so I'll check it out. Had a DR. appointment today (orthopedic) and I have ostreo arthritis, so it's a brace for now to help pull apart the knee, then 2-3 years down the road knee replacement. They say I'm to young now (49)! Kind ...

hiking poles

With my right knee not doing so well, can anyone recommend hiking poles. I have seen some in a local store but the prices are a bit high imho. Or would I be better off with a "stick from the woods"? I have seen some in the Grand Canyon at Vercamps, but not sure about them since I'm just getting star...

Ok, I'm stumped! I have only been in the area 7 months but can't seem to find "grapevine trail". Where is it located near (besides Prescott!)? Sounds like I would like to add this one to my list!

I enjoyed "Between a rock and a hard place" by Aron Ralston, the one who cut off his arm, "Death in the Grand Canyon" and "Survive! My fight for life in the High Sierras" by Peter Deleo.

Trish, I'm happy your mom is doing nicely, you couldn't have received a better gift. My first AZ Christmas was grand, spent with new friends, and family. All the while my good ole' ex state of FL had tornados (sorry for them) I was in the refreshing air of Prescott!

Re: Missing Cesna

There is no snow in the Sedona area. It's been cold but no snow. There is an outfit in Sedona called ropes of life or something of that nature. They rescue stranded hikers and climbers. You might want to call them, if I can get the proper name I'll post it. Best of luck, I hope you get some info soo...

All it took for me was a drive from Vegas to the Grand Canyon over U.S. 40 and I was hooked! Now 2 years later here I am. Arizona sure has it all over anything I have seen in the North East (and south for that matter)! There is alot to see all over the west, so I hope you enjoy your trip. And like M...

Very good point!! But the line for in front of us for "our number" is extremely long, you get the idea, sexual predators for one, so we have a pretty long wait!

The incident with the alligator and the girl I knew happened in 1974. Just before we moved 4 people were killed, 1 while jogging along a waterway, and another while swimming in a fresh water lake, a 12 footer got her I think. I agree with hunting (I don't hunt nor do I own a gun) but to kill an anim...

Hi Dan. I knew they were a predator, but unlike Florida, it's rare from what I have been reading about mountain lion sightings. In FL. I have seen at least several thousand alligators in my 29 years there. We counted 350 on one trip across alligator alley (I-75). But the difference here is that unin...
