Re: Bear Bedfellow - Ponderosa Campground 5-31-12
You gotta admit that's a lot of late night bear attacks over a short period of time. Clearly at least one bear has become a predatory threat to sleeping campers.. Nothing worse than a bear ripping through your tent while you are asleep. I read that the one guy who was attacked while sleeping in his ...

Re: drinking water at campground
Sorry I dont know about the water at Havasupai.. I just feel compelled to spread the word that Aquamira Water Treatment Drops (and tablets) are essentially the same technology as what makes tap water safe to drink. It is not like iodine or chlorine. It does not add any taste or dangerous poison to t...

if they were indeed firing these rifles within a designated wilderness, that is illegal except when hunting game, in season. Plinking and target practice is a no-no in Wilderness. In some wilderness areas, only rifles and shotguns are allowed. Sidearms and pistols are illegal, fired or not. I think...

Yeah.. It is the same one that Tim had during the Maxwell trail overnighter. A good pound lighter than the Garcia.

Re: Does anyone have a bear canister I can borrow?
There is a super small one that is fairly cheap ($39) at http://www.bareboxer.com/ It fits in just about any size pack. I just bought one and it is roomy enough for a day or two. and it weighs less than 2 lbs (Yeah it is still heavy) Anyhow it ships pretty fast since it is coming from California. Th...

Fire in the "Grahams" (Pinaleno Mountains)
My office window (in Willcox) faces the Pinaleno Mountains that are just South of Safford and I have been watching a significant amount of smoke build up to the point now that I can not even see the mountains at all. I have not seen any official reports on this fire yet.

One day I woke up and decided to skip the coffee because I was wanting to enhance my ability to camel up on the upcoming hike.. I have successfully skipped the coffee now for the past month now so I guess that's that! (yes, I had a week long headache). Someone told me that the way you hydrate the da...

If you listened to a lot of an 8 track, that means you must have been pretty good at fixing the tape! Squeek.. muffle... crosstalk... ..
And of course the magic spot on the tape where you could change track to hear the song you wanted.... Ahhh, the bad ole days!!

Re: Magical batteries or...
Okay my Gps batteries usually last me about 20 hours on average. As I started to "play" with my GPS more, I'd plug the gps into my usb slot of my laptop and do stuff. I've had the same batteries for over 30 hrs and the indicator indicates 4 bars fully charged still. These are regular alka...

Here is the direct link to the manufacturer... http://theprobar.com/
I just ordered a small variety to see how they do.

Re: Dry bags
I just went to Wally world and bought some compactor bags for my pack... I took one out and discovered that they are all perfumed! I gave it a bleach bath but it still smells like perfume to me.. Maybe after a few days it will air out.... Looking at the package it says "Odor Control - Clean Fre...
