Re: Royal Arch Route Trip Coming Up...

When I did that loop, I took a 60' 10mm utility rope so we could double it. We decided it wasn't long enough to double. Frankly, I would up your length to 35'. It's a fun trip, enjoy!

Why is that? Frankly W3W has been around for several years now and, as far as I can tell, hasn't gained any traction. The only use I've seen for it is in geocaching for a simple puzzle to find the coordinates for a geocache.

I approach a lot of things wearing my Luna Osas. Very few problems so far.

Re: 3words to find you

The big issue is there is no easy way to find out where you are. Also, if someone says, "I'm at diamond brick concrete", I have absolutely no idea where that may be. If they give me coordinates, I can reasonably guess the direction they're at and even roughly the distance - at least if I know what c...

Re: Section Hiking Logistics

I sectioned the AZT from November 2014 to October 2015. I mostly left my truck where I was finishing and got a ride to the start. Here's what I did, section by section. I ended up doing fairly long sections a few times which makes life easier in the end. Patagonia to Gabe Zimmerman. I parked in Pata...

I use bifocal lenses. I tried contacts once but struggled to insert them and gave up. I've never tried progressive lenses and probably never will as I have had no issues with the bifocals. Good luck figuring out what's going on.

Re: STOP Sliding OFF your Inflated Air Mattress

I use a quilt and sleep right on the pad. I've never slid off. That's after I'd guess, close to 200 nights. I used to use a silnylon tent. The pad slid all over the tent's floor even after streaking silicon seam sealer on it so I know that sliding around is annoying. I'm sure the shelf liner weighs ...

Re: REI Mountain House Fail

@chumley Thanks for resurrecting my thread and the laugh. I gave up backpacking meals a long time ago. Too expensive and bulky for an extended outing. Maybe they'd be okay for a weekend. I'm not picky, now I just bring a Knorr's rice side and a tuna packet. Most of the time I don't even bring a sto...

Re: Royal Arch Route, AZ. Rappel and upclimb options.

@louie
Concerning rope length. I brought a 50' rope and we were going to double it for the rappel. 50' was a bit short for that so we just did a single rope rappel. I would use a 30' rope or a 60' rope now, depending.

Hart warns it’s important to never feed wildlife. Except birds. Birds are not actually wild and it's perfectly acceptable to install feeders for them because they're pretty . Also, birds aren't real . Whether birds are real or not, ensure your feeder doesn't spread disease https://www.seattletimes....

Companies? I thought it was just the CDT Coalition that provided the shuttles. Are you planning on caching water for them too as they are not stocking that either?

A bigger issue might be New Mexico's 10 day quarantine on entry.

Re: Mask Mandate On Federal Lands?

I would think that national parks and forests are under congressional control, but I could be wrong on that. Is congress is capable of controlling anything, much less any federal lands? Their job isn't to control, just to enact laws, same as the house. It's the executive branch's job to do the cont...

Probably not a lot of vitamin D to be had between 8pm and 5am. Just saying.
