Re: Missing Rafter
I visited my primary care last week and he asked, "did you know that Dr. Tseng died?". I hadn't heard, but when he told me the story, I assumed there would be a post here about it. They found his body on July 4 of last year. Links to some local stories about it are below. This news really ...

Our Superintendent is gutless:
"while school remains open, we encourage parents to keep students home if able. Thank you and be safe."
Not a single kid in my classroom. Hopes for hiking dashed.

Skull Mesa - Cottonwood Creek Loop
Ok, second attempt! I cancelled the trip I planned in late October when my cat died, so I am trying this again. There seemed to be some moderate interest in this one, so maybe I'll get some people to join me. I plan to leave Glendale in the early afternoon, hike until it is dark or possibly later, p...

Re: Skull Mesa - Cottonwood Creek Loop?
thank J.R. Bob Dobbs that nobody else joined this. I have to cancel as we put our 16-year old cat to sleep last night and I am still reeling. Need to spend the night at home.

I plan to hike in from the North. I teach as well, and hate having a sub. I guess my hike will be partly in darkness. Anyone that needs/wants to carpool let me know.

Mazatzal Mountains on the AZT (Pine to Mt. Ord area)
I am looking for some folks that would want to join me for a 76-mile backpack from Pine, all the way down the AZT to where it crosses 87 near Mt. Ord. I am thinking about a 4 day walk with a vehicle shuttle, and would like to do this before it gets too cold up there (maybe by mid-November) If anyone...

I really want to hike the AZT section from Pine to Mt. Ord vicinity (approx 76 miles) before it gets too cold up there.

Great. Thanks. I was thinking I would do this once the daytime temperatures go down a bit, and likely opening it up to a group trip that I would post here.

Mazatzal Divide logistics
I have decided that my dog is an undue backpacking burden at this point. She can't keep up with me on miles anymore, and has gotten sick on me twice this summer, derailing a couple of trips. The decision to go it alone opens up many possibilities, one of which is the full length of the Mazatzal Moun...

Re: Devil's Chasm - Dog Friendly?
A couple of years ago I ran into two guys camping next to me on Cherry Creek. They were heading up Devil's Chasm the next morning with full dog hoisting rigs. When we spoke again via facebook sometime later, they told me that they tried to get the dogs up there, and even with hoisting, it was diffic...

Re: Put On Your Freakin' Headphones
somewhat non sequitur alert. One afternoon, hiking in the near the 32nd st. trailhead of the Phx Mt. Preserve, I heard a voice bellowing down the canyon, LOUD, in occasional falsetto. I could not place it until the man rounded the corner, wearing a fanny pack and SHORT shorts, singing (with gusto) t...
