Re: Stage II fire restrictions - Coconino NF
While camping near Stoneman Lake Road this weekend we were visited by a ranger checking on campers and letting people know about the restrictions. I asked him about the original 10 foot order and what resulted in it being revised. The ranger informed me that the original order came from above and th...

Re: CQ HAZ Ham's (AKA Amateur Radio operators)
@jameslcox44 Jim unless your in a canyon most places in AZ have some Amateur radio coverage. I always have my HT with me and I run APRS as well to make it easier for friends and family to keep track of me. APRS is a good tool but does not have 100% coverage however its free and the tracking map is ...

Re: For GPSjoe - 5 yr Anniversary at Mt. Peeley TH
I took a drive up to the top of Ord this morning all the north facing areas had about 1 to 2 inches of snow. All the areas exposed to sun were clear. If the weather holds for the week I suspect the road to Peeley will be okay.

Re: AZ 87 - Chains & Four Wheel Drive are now required
I can tell you on New Years Eve I drove to Show Low in the blizzard this last year and there were lots of spun out jack knifed trucks and cars. I had no problem with the FJ in 4wd but others did not fair so well. For them chains may have made the difference getting up the hill by Ord and then the fi...

Re: MCSO rescue team helps man, daughter off Four Peaks Mountain
I am a fixed wing guy who also has a Helicopter rating however my Rotor experience is limited. I can tell you that high winds at high elevations can cause issues with control with the aircraft that for an experienced pilot which I am sure they all are can handle, but in this case since no one appear...

I was listening to the Comms on MCSO Search. They have a Black hawk from the Guard assisting and they are still working on getting them off the peak.

For those who have noticed my string of peak bagging the last year or so I have been working toward a Goal in an Amateur Radio contest group called Summits on the air. The goal is to accumulate 1000 points operating amateur radio from selected mountain tops around the world. To date I have activated...

Re: Home Flooding
Both washes on my property are running over a foot deep and the rain gage is showing 2.70 inches since 5 am and climbing. Fortunately the house is up higher then the surrounding terrain so unless the roof leaks it should stay dry. My old house the backyard would flood almost to the base of the rear ...
