Re: Puerto Blanco Loop - Organ Pipe NM, AZ :: Question by Ra
Received a reply from the ORPI Ranger Station; The loop is open. It is actually only 41 miles if you don't take the spur road to Senita Basin. To start the drive begin at the visitor center to check road conditions. Take North Puerto Blanco (1 way road due to it being very narrow) to Pozo Nuevo and ...

Puerto Blanco Loop - Organ Pipe NM, AZ :: Question by Randal
With the New Year's announcements of reopening sections of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument http://www.nps.gov/orpi/index.htm that have been closed since 2003, does anyone know if the 51 mile Puerto Blanco Drive loop is completely open? I've posed the same question to ORPI Ranger Station and I'm ...

Re: Return of the Painted Desert Rendezvous
Yeah a muddy day trip to Onyx Bridge is certainly doable. Plus we could check out Homolovi, which has some paved(ish) trails over in Winslow. I think Friday night as planned and assess as needed should work. Rock Art Ranch can also be an interesting distraction (flooding?) => http://hikearizona.com...

Re: Return of the Painted Desert Rendezvous
I like the idea of heading up to Holbrook Friday as planned. We can discuss Saturday plans A, B, C, etc that evening and make THE decision based on conditions in the morning. I have total faith that Rob will have some good alternatives including a muddy slog to the ever elusive Onyx Bridge (sans pac...

Re: Return of the Painted Desert Rendezvous
Here's sort of my plan for the hike, subject to change based on ground conditions. I have been on the ground for essentially the first half of this route. The second half is based on a combination of satellite photos and the topo maps. http://hikearizona.com/map.php?MY=8555&M=6 I did not includ...

Looks like my F-150 will be pulling out of PHX sometime between 2pm and 3pm on Friday with Rob del Desierto, trekkin gecko and tibber as riders. We have rooms booked at the Hobrook Best Western on Navajo Blvd that Friday evening. I'll let Rob set the Saturday morning rendezvous plans... ;) RANDAL ce...

Re: Return of the Painted Desert Rendezvous
Rob, I stand corrected. Another HAZzer, it must have been. But it's sold out??? Well, wish I could go. Liz, I was laughed at on the phone when I asked to reserve a room on 9/26. They said you usually have to book a few months in advance to get a weekend room. Ended up booking at the Best Western in...

Re: Return of the Painted Desert Rendezvous
I will drive up to Holbrook the Friday 9/26 evening for our Saturday PEFO rendezvous. I potentially have space for a rider (or 2) in my F-150... Any thoughts on Friday overnighter in Holbrook? I'm thinking the Wigwam Motel along Route 66 => http://sleepinawigwam.com/ only for the "eclectic kisc...

Letty;
I'm intrigued by the possibility of getting back out to this area => http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=642
I'm trying to get my February biz schedule together to identify a 3 day weekend. Feb 1-4 is already booked by another obligation. What are your preferred target dates?

Re: Gps/Samsung notebooks etc
I've been experimenting with Trimble Outdoors Navigator GPS app for iPhone (free demo version only, haven't upgraded to the PRO app for $4.95 yet). I've been impressed with it so far - beats the pants off my ancient Magellan Sport Trak. :) Does put a dent on the battery current consumption though. I...

Re: Colorado Fall Colours 2012 (San Juan Mountains)
@Randal Schulhauser I'm on my android phone right now so I'm having a tough time navigating the MapDEX. However, I would be very surprised if that was not the spot. Assuming the view is facing north, you can see the two buildings on the west side of the road, with the aspen grove on the other side....
