@chumley
Oh wow... I'm looking at the checkerboard you mentioned now. Something I'll definitely need to consider. Thank you for the heads up.

Re: Clear Creek... All of it.
:) Indeed I am familiar with the different watershed. It's gorgeous country up there. My hope is that as I move east away from BRR the canyon walls will drop significantly more than the narrows of WCC. This should give me the option to climb out onto the rim and cover a lot more ground faster and sa...

Clear Creek... All of it.
Has anyone trekked the full length of Clear Creek from Blue Ridge Reservoir to McHood Park near Winslow or heard of anyone who has? I've done a 40ish mile section of West Clear Creek and am very curious about this 100 or so mile route now. I understand that depending on water levels/time of year I c...

Re: Thru Hiking with my Dog
Just an update to everyone out there. Bandit and I finished our thru hike on June 6. I have nothing but good things to say about the people I met and the experiences we had out on the trail. Nothing but trail angels. Bandit was a total stud the entire way! Just a few cholla here and there. One of hi...

Re: Arizona Trail Trek
Congrats! Bandit and I rolled in a bit behind you on June 6. I was sad to find out that the register book was missing when I got there! So whats the next big adventure?

FYI
Just an FYI for anyone thru hiking and needing to resupply from L.F. Ranch. A hiking partner and I had planned on catching a ride from L.F. Ranch into Payson for resupply, but found to our dismay that they are not offering rides at the moment. We were informed that someone was ticketed in Payson whi...

Re: Class of 2014 NOBO
Thanks for the great information everyone!!! I've been doing some last minute resupply changes and have decided to cut some luxuries from my base pack as well (I heven't let go of the Dslr, lenses, or tripod yet...). I'm feeling better about water sources now, especially after having reworked my iti...

Re: Class of 2014 NOBO
Hey there Sirena, As you know, I'll be starting the trail on the 22nd this month and was just wondering about my logistical preparedness. While all food and resupply issues have already been addressed, my only lingering concern is about water. There are several water sources that have not been updat...

Update!
I am excited to say that Bandit and I will be setting off Saturday March 20 to begin our through hike. I've been pushing him on recent day hikes of 16-22 miles with pack and he is looking more prepared that myself in many ways! Logistical issues have been addressed and now I'm spending each day pack...

Re: Thru Hiking with my Dog
Again, thank you all so much for your replies to this topic. I realize that the decisions to not only attempt the AZT, but also to bring my dog along, are ones that only I can answer. Without anyone here knowing my physical capacity, experience, level of heart and so fourth, it is almost silly of me...

Re: Thru Hiking with my Dog
It's not the family dog. I chose this breed to accompany me in the outdoors and have had him running trails, snowshoeing, canyoneering, and more since about 6 months old. The backlash from the family is more about their insecurity with me going than with him. My parents have always owned Rottweilers...

Re: Thru Hiking with my Dog
Thank you so much for the replies. I'll start by addressing the logistical issues mentioned. I was aware about the Grand Canyon not allowing dogs, so I'll be leaving him with a friend in Flagstaff who will be meeting me to finish out the trek from the North Rim to Utah. I believe there is another st...

Thru Hiking with my Dog
Hello HAZ Community, I am a Phoenix resident planning a "solo" thru hike of the AZT South to North this upcoming February. When I originally made this decision, I was dead set on having my Queensland Heeler, Bandit, accompany me. However, due to backlash from my family, I am reaching out t...
