Can we have a forum where there really isn't a topic?......Like this one? I see that sometimes the topic strays (my fault at times) but then it develops into something else interesting.......
I am going to be doing a lot of day hikes in the Granite Mtn (Prescott) area every weekend. The trails there are extensive and even tho I have been here for a 100 years I have yet to explore all of them. Hopefully soon I will have some triplogs going for this area........

There were a few comments about Fossil Springs, Fossil Creek, and Childs. There are going to be a lot of changes in that entire area come the year 2004. There are a few projects that are coming together all at the same time. APS will be returning the "rights" of the power plant and the land to the forrest service. The Childs campground will most likely be monitored much more closely--they're still planning that part out. However, one of the houses will most likely be used for forrest service/rangers etc. during the busy weekends such as Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc. It has actually cleaned up there a bit over the past year. I just paddled the Verde this past weekend and it didn't appear to be so bad. The dam at Fossil Springs will be torn down, returning the area to its "natural state". A new dam will go in a few miles above The Verde River along Fossil Creek. This dam will serve to separate the river fish from the native fish that live in Fossil Creek (mainly just below the dam). I have a feeling that once these projects are completed, fewer people will visit Fossil Springs, and the surrounding areas will remain fairly free from human destruction...hopefully.

Childs has a campground "host" at this time. Exactly what their duties are I am not sure of.....the dumpster collection is all but poor because of the condition of the road down to it.....I sure hope they figure something out.....I am planning a trip there in a couple of weeks with my daughter and her friends again to scour the hillsides for dumpsites. I contacted a friend of my who is in the Forest servce here in Prescott and they are making arraingements to have a truck and small trailer to haul out the stuff we find to the top of the hill. I am waiting on confirmation of that now.
They had originally planned to return Fossil Creek to its natural flow by the summer of 2003, but they jumped the gun, there is more to do than they thought I'm sure....
Have you heard anything about what will happen to Steyr Lake? That lake is supplied by the flumes water flow........
