Chit Chat

Post by hoppy47m »

Can we have a forum where there really isn't a topic?......Like this one? I see that sometimes the topic strays (my fault at times) but then it develops into something else interesting.......
I am going to be doing a lot of day hikes in the Granite Mtn (Prescott) area every weekend. The trails there are extensive and even tho I have been here for a 100 years I have yet to explore all of them. Hopefully soon I will have some triplogs going for this area........

the low down on chit chat

Forum - A medium of open discussion or voicing of ideas

Minor dialouge is more then welcome. When it gets to a point of back-n-forth one-liners, then it's just saturating the site with useless clutter. It's frusterating to those searching for relevant information & those interested in relevant replies to their topic.

Everybody has the option to list their MSN, AIM, Yahoo &/or ICQ on their profile. That's what I use to chat with friends and such.

Personally, I don't want any type of AOL/MSN Chat rooms on HAZ. More then not, they turn tasteless.

If hoppy want's this topic to be the worlds longest thread of chit chat in Arizona, I'm game

I grew up in that desert heat, traipsed all over the superstitions back in the early 60's, up into 4 peaks at the same time........................FOREST!!!!!!

How can you say heat! One can always get warmer! If its minus 30 you can stay warm (look at the folks in Green Bay). But if it is 130 out, without electricity, how can you get cooler?

Go COLD!

Forest! Aspens, pines, spruce, ferns, moss. Streams, lakes with trout, not catfish. Temps below the 100's. Absolutely the forest.

How is Fossil Creek these days, last time I was there the roadside had turned into a trash-strewn hippie colony. A few miles back was still nice but wading through the garbage almost made me swear that place off.

I grew up in the mountains of Wyoming and Colorado, in either log cabins or small trailors high in the mountains, one room schools, rides on the back of a snow mobile with my Dad during the winter got me to school in Colorado, and climbing out the hatch of the cabin and sliding down the roof got me to the school bus (when it could make it) during the winter months in Freedom, Wyo. I love all the different climits and the beauty they offer, but there is something about the desert that makes me feel like I'm home, a feeling of belonging that I just can't describe in words.

Note* anyone looking for a good gym to workout in that lives in the Mesa area, try the Rock, a family gym located on Sossoman and Main. It's a Christain gym owned by a really awesome guy named Shane. I admire his desire to open a family gym and dedicate all his hard work to the glory of the Lord; pretty awesome!
Let's go hiking!

The fossil creek area itself has been cleaned up, I personally have hauled trailer loads of garbage from along the creek and campsites. I ran into a forest ranger who was shaking his head at all the garbage one time and we got to talking. He said that the forest service was actually considering making creekside camping a thing of the past and were looking at having large community campgrounds in order to better maintain them. That cured me, I took about 15 of my daughters friends down there along with my trailer and we scoured 5 miles of the creek and road for garbage, I had to make 4 trips up to Strawberry to get it all out. We were fortunate, other campers joined in on the effort, it still took us 2 full days to clean it up. This was 2 years ago and it has stayed fairly clean to this day. Now.....the Childs campground is a totally different matter, those "earthy" people who claim to be environmentalists are pigs......they take their garbage up the hill and stash it in a bush........if you cross the river and go up the opposite bank and check it out with binoculars you can see the garbage bags stashed. I have a feeling that campground will be either monitored closely very soon or shut down all together......

BOTH

There's nothing like rolling around in the grass next to a gushing creek surrounded by deep forest and craggy mountain walls...

Unless it's stretching out on slickrock and watching the sunset paint the canyon walls.

Why does it have to either/or? As long as I'm out of the city I'm a happy man.
