Re: Wild berry report
It seems a bit late, but maybe it's better higher up. I got a couple quarts of raspberries from the volunteer canes in my yard, but they were done two weeks ago. The blueberries were early on the AT this year. I had some at the beginning of July and I doubt they'll be around much longer if there are any left. I would have a lot more raspberries if the township brush police would stop cutting the canes.

I enjoyed many berries along Ash Creek on Mt Graham last week and all of the bear poop in the area was berry pink!
Re: Wild berry report
raspberries in Barbershop and other canyons. I had a few but was concentrated on hiking out, not so much gathering. you could pro'lly fill your pockets if you spend a few hours dedicated to picking. they were a bit tart, otherwise tasty.

Re: Wild berry report
Lots and lots of raspberries to be had on the Butterfly Trail and others in the Catalinas. They were in all stages of ripeness a couple of weekends ago. Yum!

Wild strawberries behind the barn at my grandparent's farm in Norway. Tiny, but the best tasting, sweetest strawberries you've ever had!nonot wrote:tis the season for strawberries

Smultron! (Sorry, that's Swedish; probably not much different in Norwegian). I agree, their flavor is unbelievable.chumley wrote:Wild strawberries behind the barn at my grandparent's farm in Norway. Tiny, but the best tasting, sweetest strawberries you've ever had!

I imagine, they've never been subjected to harsh mid seventies. Those leaves look healthier than a rain forest!chumley wrote:the best tasting, sweetest strawberries you've ever had

The blackberries were delicious last year at Fossil Creek. That was during the last few days of August.
This is my gym. I have to travel down a bumpy road to get there. There are no treadmillls, no machines, and no personal trainers. I walk..I run..I breathe the fresh air. I can go any time I want, as much as I want and there is no membership fee.

Re: Wild berry report
Was up on FR 300 week and a half ago. Lot of people picking berries on the top of the rim areas. Have no idea what kind.

Lots of berries along Geronimo Trail and Webber Creek this weekend up at the Rim. Some super tart, and some perfectly sweet. Saw a couple of people out there just to pick the berries.

was that your group on Saturday with a bunch of cars along 440? I thought I recognized Wendi as I drove by but it was way too early for me to be social...rae-rae wrote:Lots of berries along Geronimo Trail and Webber Creek this weekend

Yup, that was our group. Nice, quiet bit of trail until you get past the turnoff for the BSA trail. Then all you hear is grumbles about pumpkin berry bushes and deadfall
Good times tho! It was a great weekend to be away from the valley.

Not sure if they are wild or not, while at Tonto Natural Bridge yesterday I noted raspberry bush's with berry's and helped myself to a couple of handfuls. I ate the red ones some of them were black on the same bush not sure what they were though.

@Nighthiker
I will be at primitive blue range and bear wallow for five days that place will be over flowing with raspberries if early indicators hold true although that also means overflowing with bear

Re: Wild berry report
Raspberries are still in husks here, but I suppose it won't be long. The township cut down more than half my canes because they hang off the bank down into the road.
