Bowl-shaped mountain north of Gila Bend
As I was driving west on AZ 238 yesterday, I noticed a very distinct, bowl-shaped, mountain not too far north of Gila Bend. Too far away for my cheap camera to get a photo, even on full zoom. Any idea if it has a name?

Re: Bowl-shaped mountain north of Gila Bend
Woolsey Peak comes to mind. It looks like a big butte from a lot of directions, but a look on a map reveals that it slopes to the southeast with somewhat of a short rim on the SSW and north sides. It's a very prominent and noticeable peak in that area.
Hope that helps.

If you mean an upside down bowl shaped mountain then yes, it would be Woolsey.

Boonie: Yeah, upside down bowl. If it were rightside up, then it would be a crater.
SG: Not sure. Different angle. From the southeast of the mountain, I'd say about 10 miles, it was definitely bowl-shaped. I don't see it in those pics. But a mountain looks different from different angles, so who knows?

@kingsnake
Hey try this, just go map dex, find approximate location from road where you saw mountain, shoot an azimuth with your arrow to approximate distance/location you saw mountain, and if feature is as distinct as you say, I would think you would have no problem picking it out, especially, with those land nav skills taught to you by the US Army ;) I do that occasionally when reviewing hiking routes to see if I correctly identified a peak ect...

Google Earth is a great tool because of it's texture mapping.

Forget using anything on the computer to identify and do it the right way, head out there again, see it, hike up it, and confirm what it is from the summit register. ;)

And if it has no summit register, you get to name it.

@SpiderLegs Love to, but 1700 feet in a mile is a bit beyond my ability ...
