Wondering what the closest good campsites are before you turn off the main trail and do the scramble towards the first pitch? We'll be coming from the west side, Peralta Trail, and up and over Freemont Saddle. Does Pinon camp have good flat spots? Is there water at times? There will be ten of us.
Much Thanks, Louie

Yes pinon camp has a couple fire rings and a few flat spots to camp and is the closest spot I know of before you head up the slope to the needle. You will probably have to bring your own water the creek only has water after a good rain .
