Kind of last minute, but I have room in my truck for two more people if anyone wants to tag along.
Meeting at the Avondale Park & Ride station at 6:00 AM sharp. This is located about a block south of I-10 on the east side of Avondale Blvd. There is a traffic light there, just look for the covered parking behind the Culver's parking lot and next to the hotel parking lot.

Re: Harquahala Summit
I just want to know how you pronounce it. I always said "har-kwuh-HALL-uh" but my former boss, who grew up around there, says it's "har-kwuh-HAY-luh."
HarquaHALLa, harquaHAYla, let's call the whole thing off....

So, you're a local, right? That's what I'm told they say. It has a nice ring to it.Patrick L wrote:Har-kwuh-hay-luh.

@azbackpackr
I heard someone in high school pronounce it that way shortly after I moved here. The lingo lives on.

Re: Harquahala Summit
As a nice finishing touch to the hike, I headed out to the new Saddle Mountain Brewery for a burger and a brew. Ordered the "Ray's Gold IPA" along with my meal. This old guy sitting at the bar next to me, looks over and tells me that the beer is named for him. I give him a look and ask him if his name is really Ray. Tells me that his daughter owns the brewery and she named the beer after him. Then spent the rest of dinner talking to him about his life kicking around the booming towns of Wenden, Salome, Tonopah and living on a couple of ranches behind Saddle Mountain and over by the Eagletail Mountains. His dad was a gold prospector and he spent time exploring most of the mountain ranges out in this area back in the 40's & 50's. This guy is responsible for half the jeep trails around Saddle Mountain.azbackpackr wrote:So, you're a local, right? That's what I'm told they say.
